A detailed C1 atlas vertebra pendant, hand carved by us and cast in lead-free pewter. The atlas is the first cervical vertebra and has a distinctive ring-like structure that supports the skull.
The Design
The pendant includes the anterior and posterior tubercles, articular facets, transverse processes, and foramina of the atlas. We kept these anatomical features visible so the piece reads as a small study of the actual vertebra.
Made by Us, From Sculpture to Finish
The original sculpture is hand carved by us in our Swedish workshop. We make the mold, cast the pendant in lead-free pewter, and finish it by hand. The surface is oxidized to emphasize the depth of the structure, then filed and polished.
